Sustainability

Perfil corporativo

Oi made its commitment to Sustainability aware that it should offer a better quality of life for today‘s and future generations, contribute to economic growth and foster ethics and social-environmental responsibility among its employees, suppliers, customers, shareholders and the community.

We rely on our main purpose, to provide convergent and integrated telecommunication services, to promote digital inclusion and, consequently, social inclusion. Among our projects developed, we highlight the Banda Larga nas Escolas (Broadband at Schools) program, a partnership with the federal government, that aims to take broadband Internet to all public elementary and high school in urban areas, according to the Brazilian Ministry of Education and Culture. In 2017, 354 new schools were contemplated with the program, totaling 53,245. Besides those, Oi also provides broadband internet to another 3,691 schools in rural areas.

Since 2009, Oi is a signatory of the Global Compact, an initiative developed by the UN with the purpose of making the business community incorporate fundamental internationally accepted values in the areas of human rights, labor relations, environmental issues and fight against corruption into its business practices, based on 10 principles. This voluntary commitment comprises the implementation, dissemination and promotion of initiatives related to these principles and to the Sustainable Development Goals, integrating them into the company’s business, operations and culture.

Social Responsibility

We invest in social projects using our own and incentive funds, through the Sponsorship and Events division and Oi Futuro, our innovation and creativity Institute that promotes, supports and develops innovative and collaborative actions to improve the lives of people and society. Acting in education, culture, social innovation and sport, the Institute accelerates initiatives that enhance personal and collective development, foster innovation experiments, collaborative solutions and stimulate connections between organizations, ideas and people. Another important initiative is the incubator Oito, a new hub for entrepreneurship and innovation, reference in Rio de Janeiro in generating new business, accelerating technological solutions, developing startups and supporting social initiatives. Oito is one of the main promoters of the activities developed in the IoT laboratory, first in Latin America for Narrowband-IoT and eMTC (evolved Machine Type of Communication) technology, also known as LTE-M. The projects developed or supported by the IoT laboratory have intrinsically a distinctive technological differential in the innovation ecosystem of Oi. Access the Oito website and know how it works.

Environmental Responsibility

In order to mitigate the environmental impact of our activities, we have developed a number of actions, including initiatives to reduce water consumption, electric energy, selective collection in its main administrative buildings, collection of used cellphones and batteries in our stores and recycling of other used materials. In addition, Oi takes an important step in combating the effects of climate change by publishing annually our GHG Emissions Inventory in the Public Emissions Registry of the Brazilian GHG Protocol Program and by voluntarily providing information to the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP).

Since 2011, we have adopted the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) guidelines for the development of our sustainability reports.
